The Mime’s Protege Vanessa Valencia 2007
I imagine that some of you visiting this blog have scratched your head a time or two. What is this Sketch Life all about anyway? Are artists really this esoteric, that scattered? To be honest, I’ve asked myself that question too. Particularly when I see how this blog’s visitor numbers stack up to other blogs at ocregister.com.
I realize Sketch Life is not like those others. Take, for example, TotalBuzz. It’s focused, well written (take a look at that smart, new blogtopper!) and tells its visitors important information.
Or go look at Nancy Luna’s new blog FastFoodMaven (and how about that great blogtopper, cool huh!). It’s interesting, fun and again, tells people news they can use.

I’m not a reporter, although I do call myself a journalist and a story teller. I’m an artist and I’m definitely quirky. I used to try to pretend I was hip and normal. I was a cheerleader at Saddleback High School in Santa Ana for crying out loud! These days, however, I’ve given up on trying to be like everybody else. I can’t help how weird I am or how funky this blog is.
Rescuing of the Mime Vanessa Valencia 2007
How fortunate for me that the suits at ocregister.com have been patient while I try to find an audience for Sketch Life. The Register has always been wonderful to me in that way. I’m a very lucky (art)girl to have landed here in Santa Ana at this joint. I’m thinking a lot about that these days. Sigh.

On My Way to See Magritte
Vanessa Valencia 2007
One thing that I’m not is pessimistic. I’m Plucky! (And I use lots of EXCLAMATION marks! Sheesh.) Here’s what’s thrilled me in the last couple of weeks: I’ve found other artists that are just like me!
Fabulous Art Diva Vanessa Valencia who authors A Fanciful Twist tells stories about life as an artist in her blog. Read about skunks! And scorpions! My favorite story of hers (so far) is about her family and Mexican heritage.
Take a look at her art that ROCKS! If you go there, you can buy her work. How easy is that? Her pieces are lovely, evocative, artsy-fartsy and she’s my new cyberfriend. If you find Sketch Life mildly entertaining, you’re going to love A Fanciful Twist. I promise. Hi Vanessa!

HI! How lovely indeed.
I am going to post about your last blog post also. What I had said, was that “your friends sexy legs did indeed need that higher heel.” Ha.
xxo, Your new “delighted to be” friend,
Vanessa

Oh how boring LIFE would be without Vanessa and her art and wonderful stories!!!
I also love reading about her life in Mexico and the trip across the border she took us on. Tell her I said to give you a piece of her Mom’s cheesecake….
